Marinejegerkommandoen (MJK) — Marinejeger
Marinejeger admission — physical minimums (fysiske minstekrav)

The Norwegian Naval Special Operations Command (Marinejegerkommandoen) tests applicants at its admission in Bergen: a 5000 m run with a 9 kg pack, pull-ups, push-ups, brutalbenk, a 400 m swim, 25 m underwater, a 30 km walk with 22 kg and a lifesaving test. The tests are done one after another with short breaks, so the 45 push-ups come after the run with the pack. The values are fixed minimums with no scoring scale; MJK says those who complete the training have around 20% more capacity than the minimums.

Norway has had no state pay table since 1 May 2024: pay is agreed individually in kroner. Shown are Forsvaret’s minimum rates from the protocol of 21 Jan 2025 (default: oversersjant, OR 6), raised along the pay ladder — our calculation; the 2026 agreement abolished central minimums, so they may change. Not included: the 2025 settlement, the 2026 local negotiations (pool about 2.7%, deadline 31 Oct 2026) and working-time allowances; no public special-forces allowance has been found. In the first training year you receive the initial-service allowance plus some service-specific allowances; full pay starts in the second year.

Questions

Are the tests the same at grovopptak?

No. Applicants without prior service who go through grovopptak 2026 (Sessvollmoen) do a slightly different set: 8 pull-ups, 45 push-ups, 40 sit-ups in 2 min, 20 back extensions (rygghev), a 7 km run with 22 kg in 45 min or less, the 30 km march with 22 kg in 4 h 30 min, a 400 m swim in 10 min, 25 m underwater and the lifesaving test in 4:30 — without the 5000 m with 9 kg and brutalbenk. MJK tells applicants to read their call-up letter carefully. The calculator uses the Bergen admission set.

Is the minimum enough to get in?

Usually not. MJK publishes the averages of those admitted in the last intake: 5000 m 21:13, 12 pull-ups, 51 push-ups, 17 brutalbenk, 400 m in 7:33, lifesaving test 3:30. These are averages, not a higher pass mark.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the forsvaret.no page "Marinejeger" (updated 8 September 2026), the service guide page "Marinejeger" (27 August 2026) and the "MJK treningsveileder 2026" (PDF, 5 May 2026), which give the same minimums. The grovopptak values come from the forsvaret.no page "Grovopptak" (24 August 2026).

What does MJK pay?

What an MJK operator earns: in the default scenario (Oversersjant · OR 6 (SKO 1566, lang lønnsstige) · år 0) NOK 520,000 gross per year, minimum pay from 1 May 2024. Some amounts are provisional — see the notes in the pay section. The pay calculator on this page lets you change rank, seniority and allowances.
