Hellenic Army Special Forces — professional soldiers (Ειδικές Δυνάμεις, ΕΠ.ΟΠ.)
Professional soldier entry tests — Special Forces specialties (αθλητικές δοκιμασίες ΕΠ.ΟΠ.)
The Greek Army recruits professional soldiers (Επαγγελματίες Οπλίτες, ΕΠ.ΟΠ.) on a 7-year commitment. Applicants for the Special Forces specialties (Ειδικές Δυνάμεις) take a separate, harder set of ten pass/fail events — sprint, mile, jumps, shot put, push-ups, sit-ups, a jerrycan carry, pull-ups and a swim — with one set of thresholds for men and women. These are entry standards for the specialty, not the selection standards of the commando units, which are not published.

What a Greek Army Special Forces professional soldier (ΕΠ.ΟΠ.) earns
New armed forces pay law ν. 5265/2026, in force retroactively from 1 Oct 2025; ranks are mapped to pay grades as valid until 31 Dec 2026, and under art. 60 a new ΕΠ.ΟΠ. stays a Stratiotis (Ε1) for at least 7–8 years. Basic salary = table amount × grade coefficient, rounded to the euro (our calculation). The parachutist allowance dates from a 2018 joint decision read from a reprint and assumes the soldier is posted to a special forces unit with a jump qualification, so it is provisional.
provisional = official source with a provisional legal status, a secondary source or our own calculation; see the sources.

Also required
- Age 18 to under 28 in the year of enlistment in the 2025 Army call; the 2026 calls lowered the limit to 25. Height at least 1.60 m for men and 1.55 m for women; health category Ι/1 or Ι/2; a 7-year commitment, after which permanent status is possible after an exam.
- Test rules: one attempt at the runs, three at the jumps and the shot put (the average of the best throw with each hand counts). Every threshold must be met — a candidate who fails one event is not tested further.
- In the 2025 call the Special Forces specialties listed are mainly technical and support roles (e.g. parachute technician, signaller, boat technician); no specialty named “commando” (Καταδρομέας) was found. Selection norms for the commando and paratrooper units and schools (ΜΑΚ, 1η ΤΑΞ ΚΑΤ/ΑΛ, Σχολή Αλεξιπτωτιστών, Σχολή Καταδρομών) are not published.
- Minimum (same for men and women) — Προκήρυξη Φ.424/1/502912/Σ.129 — Πρόσληψη Επαγγελματιών Οπλιτών στον Στρατό Ξηράς, ΦΕΚ Α.Σ.Ε.Π. 5/11.03.2025, παρ. 11.η (2025-03-11)
Questions
Is this the commando selection test?
No. It is the official entry test for professional soldiers applying to Special Forces specialties — the only published Greek Army fitness standard labelled for the Special Forces. The courses at the paratrooper and commando schools have internal tests whose standards are not public; passing this set is a starting point, not a guarantee.
Are the thresholds different for women?
No. The call states that the term “candidate” covers men and women, and it publishes a single set of thresholds. There are no scoring tables or age-based norms — each event is pass/fail.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the Army professional soldier call Φ.424/1/502912/Σ.129, published in ΦΕΚ Α.Σ.Ε.Π. 5 of 11 March 2025, paragraph 11.η (a digitally signed copy). The text of the 2026 Army call (ΦΕΚ Α.Σ.Ε.Π. 47 of 25 August 2026) has not yet been reviewed, so the set may have changed.
