Jednostka Wojskowa AGAT (JW 3940)
Fitness exam for combat and assault teams — category I (egzamin sprawności fizycznej, kategoria I)

For combat, assault and combat support teams (category I), JW AGAT sets four fixed standards, the same for men and women and with no points: a 5,000 m run under 23 minutes, at least 12 strict pull-ups, at least 75 sit-ups in 2 minutes and a 100 m swim under 2 minutes. The fitness exam is part of stage 2 of recruitment, alongside psychological tests and a language check; stage 3 is a field selection with no published standards.

Rates from the 2026 pay regulation (Dz.U. 2026 poz. 212, applied from 1 Jan 2026) and the consolidated allowances regulation (Dz.U. 2026 poz. 611); allowances are multiples of a fixed 1,500 zł. AGAT (JW 3940) has its own service allowance bracket, much lower than JWK or FORMOZA (0.10–0.30 instead of 0.80–0.90 in the first 3 years), and no unit-specific special allowance. The default is a corporal with 4 years of service, less than 3 in AGAT, on a post with parachute jumps; actual posts are not public. A JTAC qualification can replace the unit allowance if it is higher (only the higher service allowance is paid).

Also required

  • Age limits: up to 33 for combat team posts for privates (does not apply to soldiers from other special forces units on such posts), 35 for combat team posts for NCOs and officers, and 35 for support posts for privates. Candidates: serving soldiers, civilians after JATA training at the special forces training centre (CSWS), reservists and officers of other services; sex makes no difference.
  • Four stages: (1) questionnaire by registered letter and an interview; (2) psychological tests, the fitness exam and a language check (STANAG 6001 or a test); (3) further psychological tests and the field selection; (4) a military medical board (fitness for special forces service) and an interview. Stage 2 can be attempted at most three times; a pass is valid for a year, also in other special forces units. Selection completed in another special forces unit exempts from AGAT’s.
  • The field selection has no published standards (distance, time or pack weight). The unit only publishes a kit list: among other things a watch without GPS, food for the whole period at the candidate’s own expense and water in factory-sealed bottles; those who drop out get no transport from the unit.

Questions

What about category II?

Category II covers AGAT’s other posts: the 2024 Ministry of Defence test (3,000 m, pull-ups or bench push-ups, envelope or 10 × 10 m, sit-ups), scored by age group, where 90–100 points is “very good” and 80–89.9 “good”; the pass mark is not named, so most likely 80. A continuous 200 m swim within 6:00 (pass/fail) is also required; the document places it under category II, and it is unclear whether it also applies to category I. AGAT’s categories are the unit’s own split, not the categories of the regulation.

Is exactly 23:00 or 2:00 enough?

The document says “below 23 minutes” and “below 2 minutes”, so the time has to be strictly faster. The calculator shows 23:00 and 2:00 as the limits; plan to be at least a few seconds under them.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the JW AGAT document “Kryteria egzaminu sprawności fizycznej dla kandydatów do służby w JW AGAT” (PDF created on 19 January 2026) and the unit’s recruitment page on agat.wp.mil.pl, both read on 18 October 2026; the kit list is the unit’s PDF of January 2026.
