NOCS (Nucleo Operativo Centrale di Sicurezza) is the Polizia di Stato's central intervention unit, and it recruits only serving police officers through internal calls, not public competitions. The calculator uses the test examples that the official NOCS page (poliziadistato.it, dated 10 May 2013) says candidates must pass before becoming combat ready: 5,000 m in 20 minutes, 100 m in 14 seconds, a 1.35 m high jump and a 4.5 m long jump. They are examples, not the full current standard, which is set by an unpublished internal circular.

Polizia di Stato basic salary and pensionable allowance follow DPR 53/2025 (rates from 1 Jan 2024, monthly = annual / 12); the 1% contract advance is applied as for the armed forces. The NOCS allowance (DPR 51/2009, art. 9; amounts from 1 Jan 2022 under DPR 57/2022) goes only to qualified operators who pass the periodic fitness check, and the law caps the lower of two such allowances at 50% when combined: we apply that to the NOCS allowance, which is our reading, not a payslip. Not included: the higher NOCS rates after long service (+10 to +29 years), 13th-month pay (tredicesima), night hours (€4.30/h), overtime and missions.

  • Only serving Polizia di Stato officers can apply: NOCS has an internal selection, not a public competition. The basic NOCS operator course (corso basico di formazione per operatori del NOCS) is announced by an internal circular, and its content, including any age limit, is not public.
  • The same NOCS page lists further examples without published limits: a 100 m swim, a rope climb using the arms only, and pistol shooting at 15 and 25 m. It gives no separate limits for women or by age.
  • Earlier step, the Polizia di Stato entry test (2026 competition for 4,400 trainee officers, allievi agenti, notice of 29 April 2026) — police entry thresholds, not NOCS selection: men 1,000 m in 4:10 or less, high jump 1.20 m, 15 push-ups without a break; women 5:10, 1.00 m and 10 push-ups. Failing one test means exclusion. Medical checks add handgrip strength of at least 40 kg (men) / 20 kg (women) and body fat of 7–22% / 12–30%. Age: 18 to under 26 (under 25 for places reserved for former volunteer soldiers).
  • Staying in the unit: the NOCS allowance is paid only to operators who have passed the periodic fitness check for operational duty (verifica periodica d'idoneità, DPR 51/2009, art. 9); its thresholds are not public.

Are these the current NOCS selection standards?

Not necessarily. The official NOCS page, dated 2013, introduces these four limits as "some examples" of what candidates must pass, not as the full rules. The current call for the basic operator course is an internal circular that has not been published, so the real selection may include other tests or different limits. Treat the result as an indication.

Can a civilian apply to NOCS directly?

No. You first join the Polizia di Stato through the public competition for trainee officers (allievi agenti), whose physical test is different: for men, 1,000 m in 4:10 or less, a 1.20 m high jump and 15 push-ups. Only serving officers can then apply for the internal NOCS selection.

Where do the numbers come from?

The calculator's limits come from the official NOCS page on poliziadistato.it (dated 10 May 2013, read on 18 October 2026). The police entry thresholds come from the Ministry of the Interior's rules for the physical tests of the 2026 competition for 4,400 trainee officers (Modalità per l'accertamento dell'efficienza fisica, a scanned PDF; women's run times read visually) and from the rules for the medical checks of the same competition.
