Air Force VFI 2026 — COMOS (STOS/Incursori) track tests

A civilian reaches the Air Force's 17° Stormo Incursori at Furbara by enlisting as an Air Force VFI volunteer in the COMOS (STOS/Incursori) track, which has 50 places in 2026. Air Force ranks share the Army pay table; basic salary follows DPR 52/2025 (rates from 1 Jan 2024, monthly = annual / 12), and the rise under the 2025–2027 agreement, which still needs a decree, is listed separately. The operational allowance comes from the 2009 table, the latest we found, at the lowest seniority level and at the base rate (100%): the sources do not say which higher rate, if any, applies to the wing. The 190% incursore supplement is set by DPR 56/2022 for incursore badge holders serving in incursore units; the €120 also requires a post on the Chief of Defence Staff's list. STOS support personnel get a different supplement (20% of the base allowance), not shown here. Not included: 13th-month pay (tredicesima), family allowance, missions and daily allowances.

Also required

  • A 13th event, a feet-first jump from a 3 or 5 m platform (tuffo a candela), is pass/fail with no points. Skipping any event makes the candidate unfit. There is also an interview (at least 16 of 40) and a competitive-sport medical certificate (athletics, running and swimming) with a stress test.
  • Before this test comes the common Air Force VFI phase: 1,000 m run, push-ups and sit-ups (2 min each); fewer than 2 of 7.5 points, or a 1,000 m slower than 7:00 for men (7:10 for women), means unfit. The top 400 of the COMOS ranking then take the track test at the 17° Stormo (Furbara) or Vigna di Valle, followed by medical checks at IMAS Rome or CAPF Bari.
  • Age: 18 to under 24; lower-secondary school certificate (licenza media). Minimum medical profile PS2 CO2 AC1 AR1 AV2 LS2 LI2 AU2 VS1. The track is open to men and women.

How does the 22-point bar work?

Each of the 12 scored events gives 0 to 3 points, and only the total counts: 22 or more of 36 passes, so a 0 in one event can be offset elsewhere. The calculator shows one even spread that passes, 2 points everywhere (24 of 36). Where the table gives a band edge without saying which side it belongs to, we use the safe side (for example 13:44 for the 3,000 m).

Are all the table rows clear?

Not quite. In the float and underwater breaststroke rows the PDF uses inconsistent signs, and the top band of the underwater swim reads "more than 25 m" for a 25 m event. We read both as rising bands (float: 20, 30, 40 s; underwater: 15, 20, 25 m), so treat those two values as approximate.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the Ministry of Defence's 2026 Air Force VFI competition notice (Bando VFI Aeronautica Militare 2026, DGPM decree of 20 October 2025), Allegato D, read on 18 October 2026. Both levels in the calculator are bands from that table: 2 points per event for the passing spread and 3 points per event for full marks.
