MARSOC — Marine Raider (Critical Skills Operator)
Screening prerequisites (1st class PFT, swim)
To be screened for MARSOC, a Marine needs a first-class score on the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for his age group — 235 of 300 points under MCO 6100.13A — and combat water survival 2nd class with 30 minutes of treading water. The PFT is pull-ups (or push-ups, capped at 70 points), a plank and a 3-mile run. MARSOC sets only the total class, not per-event minimums.

Also required
- Water: combat water survival 2nd class, modified to include 30 minutes of treading water (MARADMIN 221/07). The MARSOC A&S fitness guide (2018) describes an initial swim test of 11 minutes treading water in utility uniform plus 4 minutes of survival floating, and sets a goal of swimming 300 m in under 13 minutes.
- GT score of at least 105, waiver possible (MARADMIN 221/07).
- Assessment and Selection (A&S): ruck movements with a 45 lb dry pack at a minimum pace of 15 minutes per mile; according to the guide, averaging a 13-minute mile or better is competitive.
- Since 1 January 2026 the jobs 0370 and 0372 are combat arms (MARADMIN 613/25): their PFT is scored on the men’s tables by age, with 210 points as the service standard — not the MARSOC entry bar.
- 1st class example — 240 points (men 21–25) — MCO 6100.13A w/Admin CH-5 (PFT tables, Table 2-1: 1st class 235–300); MARADMIN 221/07, par. 7.C (2025-05-28)
Questions
Why these three values?
MARSOC requires a first-class PFT (235–300 points) but no per-event minimums. We use one combination from the official tables for men aged 21–25: 20 pull-ups (90 points), a 2:54 plank (80) and a 22:50 3-mile run (70) — 240 points. Any other combination reaching 235 also counts; the tables differ by age group.
Can I do push-ups instead of pull-ups?
The PFT allows it, but push-ups score at most 70 points (for men aged 21–25 that takes 87 push-ups in 2 minutes), so reaching 235 then needs near-maximum plank and run scores.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the PFT tables and Table 2-1 in MCO 6100.13A with Admin Change 5 (memo of 28 May 2025), and from MARADMIN 221/07 (23 March 2007), still cited as reference A in MARADMIN 462/25. The 2007 message says only “1st class PFT”; 235 is that class under today’s Table 2-1 (before 2018 it began at 225), so treat this level as provisional.
