A civilian reaches COMSUBIN's operational group (GOI) by enlisting as a Navy VFI volunteer in the CEMM incursori track (79 places in 2026). The entry tests at Mariscuola Taranto are a 25 m swim in 28 s or less, at least 15 push-ups, 25 sit-ups and 2 pull-ups, the same for men and women; failing one rules the candidate out of the track. These are entry thresholds only: the standards of the roughly 11-month Corso Ordinario Incursori that follows are not public.

Navy ranks use the same pay parameters as the Army ones (Military Code, art. 629: capo di 2ª classe = maresciallo ordinario); basic salary follows DPR 52/2025 (rates from 1 Jan 2024, monthly = annual / 12), and the rise under the 2025–2027 agreement, which still needs a decree, is listed separately. The operational allowance comes from the 2009 table, the latest we found, at the lowest seniority level and at the base rate (100%): the sources do not say whether GOI operators get a higher rate (e.g. while embarked). The 190% incursore supplement is set by DPR 56/2022 for incursore badge holders; the €120 also requires a post on the Chief of Defence Staff's list. Not included: 13th-month pay (tredicesima), family allowance, missions and daily allowances.

Also required

Age: 18 to the day you turn 24; lower-secondary school certificate (licenza media). The track is open to men and women with the same thresholds. Failing one test rules the candidate out of the incursori track, but they stay in the competition for ordinary Navy posts (CEMM navale e CP).
After the tests at Mariscuola Taranto, the top 140 candidates go to MARINFERM La Spezia for the incursore fitness check: medical profile 1AC‒1AR‒1AV‒1LS‒1LI‒1AU, natural eyesight of 10/10 in each eye with no LASIK or PRK, and a tight seal on a breathing-apparatus mouthpiece.
Path to the unit: VFI CEMM incursori → Corso Ordinario Incursori at COMSUBIN (about 11 months) → preliminary operational training module in the Gruppo Operativo Incursori (GOI) → military incursore badge (brevetto militare da Incursore).

Questions

Is there a time limit for push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups?

The notice gives none: the repetitions must be done without pausing (senza soluzione di continuità). The 25 m swim may not use the lane ropes or walls. Results above the threshold earn ranking points, up to 15 in total.

Is this the COMSUBIN selection itself?

No. These are the entry tests for the Navy VFI incursori track. The incursore fitness check at La Spezia and the Corso Ordinario Incursori (breath-hold, long-distance swimming and more) follow, and their standards are not published in the notice.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the Ministry of Defence's 2026 Navy VFI competition notice (Bando VFI Marina Militare 2026, DGPM decree of 27 October 2025), art. 12 and Allegato D, read on 18 October 2026. The same thresholds apply to the amphibious, diver, helicopter-crew and Coast Guard rescue tracks. The upper level is the score that earns the maximum 15 ranking points.
