Fusilier marin entry minimums (condition physique du marin, 2022)
The Commandos Marine are one of the two components of the French Navy's marines and commandos force (FORFUSCO). The way in is the fusilier marin speciality (age 17 to under 30), followed by the commando course (stage commando, STAC) at the marines school (ECOFUS) in Lorient, which ends with the green beret. No thresholds for the commando course itself are published, so this calculator uses the Navy's 2022 minimums for entering the fusilier marin speciality — the step before the commandos.

Base pay follows the military pay scales (grille indiciaire) in force on 18 Oct 2026; the index point has been frozen since 1 Jul 2023, and the pay band (ES) and step are a choice you make. Both parachutist bonuses (PCSMIL) are statutory rates, but that a given commando post is designated for them is our assumption — the special forces unit list under art. 413-14 of the Penal Code is not published. Not included: family supplement, command bonus (PCRM) and deployment pay (ISSE = 1.5 × base pay per day of operation abroad); all PCSMIL together are capped at €2,000 a month.

- Fusilier marin entry (lamarinerecrute.gouv.fr): age 17 to under 30, French nationality, completed Defence and Citizenship Day (JDC), able to swim. The Navy's recruitment page sends Commando Marine applicants to the fusilier marin page.
- Swimming (fusilier marin, 2022): 100 m breaststroke plus a 2 m vertical breath-hold dive — untimed but eliminatory. Women's minimums differ: 20 sit-ups, VAMEVAL stage 10 and 4 km in under 20 min with 3 kg.
- Path to the green beret: before the commando course, fusiliers are tested on ropes, pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, a 90 m carry, a sea water course and the annual fitness test (CCPM), plus a march with pack and weapon (1,500 m + 8 km) — no thresholds are published. For commando Hubert (combat divers) there is a further two-week selection and a 7-month course at the Navy diving school in Saint-Mandrier: in 2023–2024, 15 were selected and 11 graduated.

Questions
Are these the commando selection standards?
No. The Navy does not publish thresholds for the commando course (STAC); an official article from March 2023 only lists the types of test. The values here are the 2022 minimums for entering the fusilier marin speciality — the compulsory step before the commandos. Meeting them opens the path, nothing more.
How long is the commando course?
Official sources only say "several weeks" and give no number. Class sizes are small: about twenty trainees received the green beret in STAC no. 158 (December 2022), and in one pre-selection week in 2023, 44 fusiliers started, with about fifteen judged to have a good chance of passing.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the Navy recruitment leaflet "La condition physique et sportive du marin" (lamarinerecrute.fr, 2022, read from a 2025 archive copy), column fusilier marin — provisional because the document is from 2022.
