PMERJ entry fitness test (TAF, 2023 notice)
BOPE, the special police operations battalion of the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police (PMERJ), selects only from serving PMERJ officers, and the thresholds of its course (COEsp) are published only in the force’s internal bulletin. The calculator therefore shows the physical test for joining the PMERJ itself: under notice 001/2023 it is sit-ups in 60 seconds, pull-ups and a 2,400 m run, pass/fail only, with no age bands. This is the entry test to the force, not the BOPE selection.

What a BOPE police officer earns — Rio de Janeiro
PMERJ is a state force: pay is a low soldo plus percentage bonuses. The soldier’s and officers’ amounts come from the 2023 soldier and 2024 officer notices; corporal and sergeant soldos are our calculation from the 2019 table and the same uplift, and no newer state pay law was found as of October 2026, so all amounts are provisional. There is no statutory BOPE allowance; whether the COEsp course raises a sergeant’s qualification bonus to 85% is unconfirmed. Not included: length-of-service bonus (10% of soldo after 3 years, +5% per further 3 years), 13th salary and deductions such as the 10.5% pension contribution.

- PMERJ entry (notice 001/2023): aged 18 to 32 on the first day of registration; height at least 1.65 m for men and 1.60 m for women; BMI from 18.5 to 29.9. The physical test takes place at least 90 days after the written exam and requires a medical certificate. Women: 26 sit-ups, a flexed-arm hang of at least 8 s and the 2,400 m run in 14:00.
- Test rules: fit only with all three minimums; two attempts at sit-ups and pull-ups, one at the run (walking is allowed). Sit-ups: hands on shoulders, knees at about 90°, feet held by a partner, elbows touch the knees, shoulder blades touch the ground. Pull-ups: shoulder-width overhand grip, from a dead hang, chin over the bar, no time limit.
- BOPE selection (COEsp, Curso de Operações Especiais) is open only to volunteers from the PMERJ; its physical, medical and psychological tests are announced in the internal PMERJ bulletin and no thresholds are publicly available.

Questions
Is this the BOPE selection test?
No. It is the physical test for joining the PMERJ as a soldier or officer cadet — the precondition for ever applying to BOPE. The COEsp thresholds are published only in the internal PMERJ bulletin, which we could not access, so the calculator does not show them.
Is there an age limit?
The 2023 soldier notice and the 2024 officer notice require age 18 to 32. The test minimums themselves do not depend on age. No new soldier notice had been published as of October 2026, so the 2023 values are the latest official ones.
Where do the numbers come from?
From item 16.16 of “Edital de Abertura nº 001/2023 – SEPM” for the soldier training course (CFSd) of the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Military Police, in the version with rectifications 1 to 5 (latest 13 February 2025), published by the exam organiser FGV; read on 18 October 2026. The 2024 officer notice (CFO) has the same minimums.
