Special Forces Group (SFG) — Special Forces Operator
SOF admission tests and cadre tests de combat (SF operator candidate)

The Special Forces Group in Heverlee is part of the Belgian Special Operations Regiment. According to the Defence SOF brochure, a candidate SF operator takes the same two-day admission tests as SOF cadre, then the SOF Basic Course (8 weeks, ending with the cadre combat tests), the commando and para brevets, the Qualification Course and a 12–14-month Operator Course. Defence publishes no fitness standards for the Qualification Course itself, so the calculator shows these published entry minimums.

Questions

Are these the SFG selection standards?

Not exactly. They are the published entry minimums of the SOF track that SF operator candidates follow: the admission tests and the cadre combat tests at the end of the SOF Basic Course. Defence describes the Qualification Course only as training with continuous selection under heavy physical and mental pressure, without figures; numbers circulating in the press are not confirmed by Defence.

How long is the Qualification Course?

The official sources differ: the SOF brochure gives 4 months, the 2026 "Special Forces Operator" job offer about 6 months. In the brochure's track it is followed by a 12–14-month Operator Course.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the Belgian Defence brochure "Candidat SOF / Paracommando" (version 4.0/2024, PDF last modified 16 January 2026), sections on cadre admission tests and cadre combat tests, plus the job offer "Special Forces Operator – Soldier" on careers.mil.be published on 4 September 2026.
