The 5th Special Purpose Regiment in Žilina belongs to Slovakia’s Special Operations Forces (Sily pre špeciálne operácie) and selects only serving professional soldiers — there is no direct route from civilian life. The limits of its own selection are not published, so the calculator uses the first gate on the path: the army entry fitness test under Decree 446/2022 (12-minute run plus two optional events), shown here for men up to 25.   • Path: first become a professional soldier of the Slovak Armed Forces — that requires passing the entry fitness test above (three events: the 12-minute run plus one of shuttle run 10 × 10 m or 60 m sprint, and one of sit-ups with trunk rotation in 1 min or overhand pull-ups for men / standing long jump for women; one retake after 7–30 days). Selection for the Special Operations Forces is open only to professional soldiers.
  • Admission to selection (order VeSŠO-12-550/2022): health classification “A”, being a swimmer and a complete application; the soldier’s commander must allow participation. Selection group A (5th Regiment operational detachments and 51st Training Base instructors) ran on 12–21 October 2026; psychological diagnostics come first.
  • Selection tests (limits not published): the professional soldier fitness test; moves with about 30 kg, marches, exercises and swimming skills; for parachute posts also an obstacle course, rope or pole climb, rope ladder, abseiling, grenade throw and pull-ups; a language check and a board interview. Kit list: rucksack of at least 65 l weighing at least 18 kg without water. A result is valid for 24 months.

Are these the limits of the 5th Regiment’s own selection?

No. Selection content and limits are set in a non-public directive (Smernica na výber k SŠO); the October 2026 announcement only says candidates drop out for failing the limit in decisive events. The numbers here are the legal minimum for joining the army, which every candidate must pass before becoming a professional soldier — treat them as the bottom of the scale, not a target.

Do the minimums depend on age and sex?

Yes. The decree has seven age groups for men and for women. Shown are the men’s values up to 25: 1,944 m in 12 minutes, 33.2 s for the 10 × 10 m shuttle and 5 pull-ups (alternatives: 60 m in 10.8 s, 36 sit-ups with trunk rotation in 1 min). Women up to 25: 1,616 m, 37.0 s, 29 sit-ups or a 139 cm standing long jump. The decree gives only pass/fail, no points; the assignment of rows to age groups is our reading of the table layout in the PDF.

Where do the numbers come from?

From Annex 5 of Decree No. 446/2022 Coll. of the Slovak Ministry of Defence (in force since 1 January 2023, read on slov-lex.sk on 18 October 2026). The selection structure comes from the mil.sk announcement “Hľadáme nových kolegov — október 2026” (17 August 2026), its kit list, and order VeSŠO-12-550/2022 of 8 December 2022.
