Army entry test F1 + annual special-operations test F3 „HEGY-4 Különleges” (2/2024. HVKF utasítás)
Since 1 February 2025 Hungary’s special forces have been led by the Special Operations Command (MH Különleges Műveleti Parancsnokság) reporting directly to the Chief of Defence Staff; its lineage runs from the 34th Bercsényi László Special Operations Battalion in Szolnok through the special operations brigade. Selection has so far been open only to serving contract and professional soldiers, and its current limits are not published. The calculator therefore combines the army entry test F1 (men under 25) with the F3 „HEGY-4 Különleges” time limits that soldiers of the special operations squads must meet every year.

Gross monthly pay under Government Decree 137/2024 (Hjkr.) and Defence Ministry Decree 20/2024: since 2024 a Hungarian soldier receives a single basic pay that the commander sets at his discretion within the band for the post’s rank group, rounded to 100 HUF and never above the upper limit. There is no separate special forces allowance and no seniority supplement; the only formal route above the band is an individual salary (egyedi illetmény) granted by the minister. That KMP posts fall into the operational category (műveleti) is our inference, the rank of an operator’s post is not published, and actual positions within the band are not public — so the page shows the full band.

- Military service: a volunteer who has turned 18, a Hungarian citizen (or a resident with a right of residence who speaks the language) and fit for service; enlisted soldiers serve only on contract (szerződéses). The regulation sets no upper age limit, and no official age limit for special forces is published. Body composition is checked against the HTAK standard (maximum weight for height and age, or body-fat percentage).
- F3 „HEGY-4 Különleges” applies to the special operations squads, assault squads and combat support squad, on top of the annual F2 soldier test (3200 m run up to age 44, pull-ups or push-ups, a core exercise; at least 220 points in total). The four elements are done in a fixed order, each within its own limit (69:00 in total), and graded pass/fail. A soldier who has not passed it within 12 months of taking up the post is moved to another post.
- Selection (kiválasztó): according to official reports from 2013 and 2020 it lasts 10 days in four phases; in 2013 the physical phase included a 200 m swim and 8, 12 and 16 km marches with a 25 kg pack, the final phase a 40 km march with 35 kg, on 3–4 hours of sleep a day. In 2020, 20–30% of participants passed, and an approximately one-year special operations basic course followed. Both times only serving professional and contract soldiers could take part; current limits have not been published.

Questions
Is this the special forces selection test?
No. F1 is the entry test for every new soldier, and F3 „HEGY-4 Különleges” is the yearly minimum for soldiers already serving in the special operations squads — the level you must hold to stay in the unit. The limits of the selection itself are not public. F1 scores each event separately with no total (except officer candidates, who need at least 220 points); the thresholds depend on age and sex, and the calculator shows men under 25. Women under 25 need 12:58 for the 2000 m, 14 kneeling push-ups and 36 crunches.
What is the unit called today?
The 34th Bercsényi László Special Operations Battalion in Szolnok became the 2nd vitéz Bertalan Árpád Special Purpose Brigade, then the vitéz Bertalan Árpád 1st Special Operations Brigade, and from 1 February 2025, under Defence Minister’s Instruction 49/2024, the Special Operations Command (MH KMP), directly subordinate to the Chief of Defence Staff. The fitness instruction (version of July 2025) still names the brigade („MH BÁ 1. km. dd.”) when assigning the F3 test.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the Chief of Defence Staff’s instruction 2/2024. (XII. 30.) HVKF utasítás on physical fitness requirements, in force since 1 January 2025: § 2 and annex 2 (F1 scoring tables) and § 7 and annex 7 (F3 „HEGY-4 Különleges”). We used the consolidated text of 4 July 2025 in the official Hungarian legal database (Nemzeti Jogszabálytár), read on 18 October 2026. Entry conditions come from Government Decree 137/2024, the selection description from honvedelem.hu reports of 2013 and 2020.

What a Hungarian Special Operations Command soldier earns: in the default scenario (Altiszt — őrmester, törzsőrmester, főtörzsőrmester (II. besorolási kategória, műveleti) · alsó – felső sávhatár) HUF 550,000–HUF 1,800,000 gross per month, pay bands in force since 2024 (unchanged as of Oct 2026).
