Comando de Operações Especiais (Exército Brasileiro)
Army fitness test — PED standard (TAF, Portaria 850/2022)

Portaria EME/C Ex nº 850/2022, in force since 1 January 2023, sets the Brazilian Army fitness test (TAF) and names the Special Operations Command (Comando de Operações Especiais) among the units held to the special standard PED — the lower limit of the “MB” (very good) grade in every event. The test is a 12-minute run, push-ups, sit-ups (max 3 min), pull-ups and the 500 m military pentathlon obstacle course; the overall result is the worst event. This is the standard a soldier in the command must keep, not the entry test for the Comandos course (CAC).

Federal military pay: soldo from 1 Jan 2026 (Lei 15.167/2025) plus percentage allowances set by law. There is no dedicated special-forces allowance; pay rises through rank, courses and the 20% parachute allowance, which is provisional because it depends on the unit and the jump plan. Not included: length-of-service allowance (only for rights acquired before 2000), 13th salary, one-third holiday bonus and food or transport aid. Deductions such as the 10.5% military pension contribution are not shown.

Also required

  • The Portaria has four standards: PBD (every soldier, lower limit of grade R), PAD (operational units, lower limit of B), PED (strategic-employment forces, including the Special Operations Command, lower limit of MB) and PAFI (before courses, with thresholds set in each course notice). Thresholds depend on age (4-year bands) and sex; shown here are men aged 18–21. From 50 only a pass/fail level applies, and for pull-ups from 40.
  • Test days: day 1 — 12-minute run, push-ups (no time limit, no rest) and crunches (max 3 minutes); day 2 — pull-ups and the PPM course. The run is scored at the next 50 m mark. Before operational courses, the pre-course test (EAFI) must be taken at least 3 months before reporting.
  • Comandos course (CAC), per the 2015 candidate guide of the Special Operations Instruction Centre: volunteer, male, at least 1 year in a special-operations unit; officers from 2nd lieutenant to captain, sergeants (3rd sergeant at least 1 year after the sergeants’ course, or career 2nd/1st sergeant) with “BOM” conduct. The guide gives no age limit. The Special Forces course (CFE) has no published entry thresholds.

Questions

Is this the entry test for the Comandos course?

No. The calculator checks the PED standard that every soldier of the Special Operations Command must meet in the regular TAF. The Comandos course has its own entry test (EAF); the latest guide we could read is from 2015: 8,000 m run in 39 minutes or less, 4 m rope climb without legs, 15 m underwater swim, 400 m swim in uniform and boots in 19 minutes or less, 15 minutes of floating, a 16 km march with at least 15 kg in 2 h 45 min or less, and pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups and PPM at grade E under the tables then in force, which Portaria 850/2022 has replaced.

What is above the PED level?

The top grade E (excelente). For men aged 18–21 its lower limit is 3,200 m in the run, 39 push-ups, 74 crunches and 12 pull-ups. The Portaria gives no E time for the PPM course, so the calculator uses PED as its only level.

Where do the numbers come from?

From Portaria – EME/C Ex nº 850 of 31 August 2022 (directive EB20-D-03.053), Annex A for men in the combat line, published in Boletim do Exército nº 36/2022 and in force since 1 January 2023. We read a copy of the bulletin on archive.org on 18 October 2026, because the army website blocks automated access. The Comandos course data come from the 2015 candidate guide (copy on a secondary portal) and are therefore provisional.
